Vocab


·         Arête- This means mountains

·         Polis- This is citizenship

·         Socrates- The man that taught people about everything and is one of the three great scholars of ancient Greeks.  

·         The death of Socrates- Socrates was sentenced to death by a jury of 500 who half of them wanted him to be dead.  This was because he spoke against the gods and corrupted the youth.  He was sentenced to drink poison.   

·         The Socratic Method- The method is a form of inquiry and debate between people with opposing viewpoints.

·         The date 508 BC- This date shows when the Greeks make a democratic constitution.

·         Agora- The agora was the ancient Greeks meeting place held in markets where people would voice their opinions this is like a town meeting hall today.  

·         What the ancient Greeks meant if they called you an idiot- The ancient Greeks thought of you as selfish when they called you an idiot an example is if you didn’t vote on a problem that was going on in the city state.
